O.J. Anthony
From basketball crash-out to the pillar of his community, the O.J. Anthony story
In the small town of Anchor Rock, a kitten stuck high in a tree meows with all its heart, hoping that someone can hear it. It’s owners wait at the base of the tree, in tears. Suddenly, the mood changes. A 6’8 giant walks up to the scene, and carefully guides the kitten back into its owner’s arms. He tips his hat respectfully, then jogs off to the next crisis. This is Anchor Rock’s police officer, O.J. Anthony.
O.J.’s story begins a long ways away from Anchor Rock. Born and raised in the small town of Duck Creek, O.J. wowed the world when he led the Duck Creek Fighting Mallards to a state championship averaging splits of 37/8/15. This performance earned him offers from D1 schools across the country, but “the Juice” decided to take his talents straight to the league. O.J. continued to wow in his early years, winning Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie 1st Team honors and leading his team on an impressive playoff run to the conference semifinals. Insiders projected him to rise to superstardom, with a GM survey voting him the player GMs would most want to start a franchise with, but he experienced a sophomore slump eventually earned him legendary bust status. His off-court antics didn’t help endearing him to teams, and so despite his large fanbase, O.J. was not offered a rookie extension. Although he lasted a couple more years in the league on vet minimums, he never got the playing time a player of his caliber deserved, and when he did, it was clear he was out of shape and out of practice. His personal life was a demerit too, a whirlwind romance with reality star, Kayla Anthony that demolished what remained of his reputation. Lost, with nowhere to go, O.J. retreated to the small town of Anchor Rock to hide from the world.
In Anchor Rock, O.J. found something he hadn’t experienced since before his b-ball days. A community. While it took him some time to get adjusted to the town, where he worked part-time with the local mechanic, after the Transference, O.J. became a staple of the town as the town’s leading mechanic Safiyya Amaechi, was Transferred away. Although his attempts to fix the small towns only attempt at transportation failed, O.J. continued in his efforts to foster relations with both Transfers and locals, an experience that ended with him becoming a police officer when the town’s only remaining officer left town. Since that day, O.J. has dedicated himself to solving every crisis and giving back to Anchor Rock. “This town has given so much to me,” Anthony said “I know every face, every street, every store. This is the place that gave me my life back, and its where I want to spend the rest of my life helping others with theirs.”
