======Glossary====== > //"It's like they're speaking a different language: so many unfamiliar terms and so many familiar ones with new meanings."// - the field notes of Dr. Lilian Rowe Over the course of Transference, you may come across unfamiliar words or phrases. This page mainly contains Out of Character Terms (information, events, places and people which exist in the real world, i.e. outside the world of Anchor Rock), but there are a few In Character Terms (terms which refer to things within the world of Anchor Rock) as well. ======In Character Terminology====== ===Anchor Rock=== The small town our game is set in. ===Locals=== Characters who were already in Anchor Rock prior to the Transference and were not moved. ===The Transference=== The event that prompts our game. Half of the world’s population found themselves uprooted from their home/where they were and transported to another location. ===Transfers=== Characters who were moved during the Transference, either into Anchor Rock or away from it. ======Out of Character Terminology====== ===Ballgowning=== A term for roleplaying romantic or similarly emotionally intense relationships between characters. If you're interested in ballgowning with someone, be sure to get their OC consent first, and pay attention to their communication and comfort as ballgowning can be particularly intense. ===CAMPO=== The CAMPaign Organiser, the person responsible for coming up with the idea of a society game and consequently leading it. Our CAMPO is Tenaya F. ===Downtime=== Downtime refers to the period of time between sessions, which will last a day in character. Transference does not use an email system, so downtime will only consist of writing a turnsheet. Our [[Downtime and Turnsheets]] page has more information on how this will operate. ===Eternity=== After the final session of Transference in Week 6, players will be asked to submit an eternity instead of a conventional turnsheet. The GM write-up for this will give an impression of how each character is affected by the aftermath of the game. ===Fluff=== A term for the non-mechanical and non-plot aspects of a game which add flavour and nuance. Think along the lines of character backstories, casual interactions between characters, and building up your personal narrative around the basic mechanics of the game. ===Game Moderator (GM)=== The people who play NPCs, write turnsheet responses, keep the wiki up to date, and generally run the game. Please get in touch with us if you have any questions, or take a look at [[GMs & NPCs|our page]] if you'd like to learn more about us! ===In Character (IC)=== Information, events, places, and characters which exist in game. ===Non-Player Character (NPC)=== Characters played by the GMs rather than you, the players. You can look through the NPC list [[GMs & NPCs|here]]. ===Out of Character (OC)=== Information, events, places and people which exist outside of the game. ===Player Character (PC)=== Characters played by you, the players, rather than the GMs. You can look through the PC list (once they're submitted) [[Player Characters|here]]. ===Player vs Player (PVP)=== PvP refers to conflict between individual player characters. Whilst we don't expect PvP to be a very big part of the game, especially physical PvP (if it comes up at all), it would occur through turnsheets and only with mutual OC consent, at which point the GMs will try and write something that is fun and fulfilling for both players. ===Player vs Environment (PVE)=== PvE refers to conflict between a player character and the world around them. ===Server=== The Discord server which hosts character creations and general questions for Transference. It has OC channels for general discussion, game rules and tech support. You can navigate between Discord servers using the leftmost Discord sidebar, where all the servers you are part of will be shown as circular icons. To access the Transference server, [[https://discord.gg/VAsMaGfMur|click here]]. ===Turnsheet=== A short piece of writing completed by players each week, used to let the GMs know what each player character is doing during Downtime. For Transference, turnsheets will be submitted via a private channel on the Discord Server. Your turnsheet can be freely edited up until 6 pm on the Wednesday after an Uptime session, at which point – unless a GM has agreed to give you a Turnsheet extension – it will be taken as final. The GM team will then read each Turnsheet, discuss, and write a response. You can find examples of turnsheets [[Downtime and Turnsheets|here]].
